Looking for Steel in Nashville this week - Tuesday thru Saturday
Hey Folks,
I'm heading up to Nashville with my son (17) this week hoping to catch some steel and songwriter shows.
For Songwriting - I'm looking at the calendars for Bluebird and the Listening room, and many others - the songwriter showcase scene is deep and wide, hard to get a grasp on all of it. If any of you have any lesser known spots i'd love to hear about them.
For Steel - I'm aware of Roberts and a few joints near there - I was able to get him in during the day last time we were there in April. Looking to see some classic country, anything with steel. Man I'm kinda spoiled from my trip to Austin last week.
Any tips please let me know - much appreciated.

If you aren't aware of the clubs out by Opryland (Music City Bar and Grill, Scoreboard, and Nashville Palace), they're where you're likely to hear some great steel players, especially on the weekend. For both songwriter shows and steel playing, The Local - both the one near Vanderbilt and the one in Hendersonville - are also good bets, again especially on the weekends. It's CMA week so expect downtown to be mayhem but once there, Robert's, Layla's, and AJ's are the clubs where you'll be the most likely to hear steel.

Hey Derrick,
It was great to meet you at Jason's show while you were in Austin. Thanks for the shout out too. There's a really fun, relaxed Saturday afternoon jam session at a place called Joelton Hardware. It's about 20 minutes or so away from downtown but worth the trip in my opinion. We had a blast there when we visited and I got to play with some good pickers and singers. Great beer and burgers too. Thought you might want to know about it, have a fun trip!

Tuesday night it’s definitely worth catching Honky Tonk Tuesday at Eastside Bowl in Madison. 8pm music start. You’ll catch a few bands and a few great steel players. Stay up late with Todd Day Wait in the venue out front at 11 if you can, its worth it.

Lots of great suggestions, but many of these venues are 21 and over (at least after 6pm) and won't fit what you're looking for. Just make sure and check first (if you can get anyone to actually answer the phone in a bar these days!).

Come on out to Time Jumpers, I'm pretty sure we're all age inclusive at a table. It'll be me, Wendy Moten, Joe Spivey, Ranger Doug from Riders In The Sky, Billy Thomas, Chris Walters, Brad Albin, and Justin Brannum. 8PM
